Alhaji Asuma Banda’s son, Fadel Asuma Banda, along with two other people, were detained by the airport police after he and a group of unidentified men broke into his father’s airport residential home.
He was arrested with two other accomplices, Aliu Bello, 28, and Suleman Mohammed, 36, who broke into the home of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Antrak Group of Companies in Accra.
In a video seen by MyJoyOnline, Fadel, in the company of about 20 men, was seen breaking into the house breaking a concrete block through the front door of the building.
Although the group, approximately 20 in total, managed to break into the compound of the house, they were unable to access the building due to burglary security.
The incident that occurred on the morning of Wednesday, March 17 at 11:35 am, caught the attention of the residents of the area.
According to some unconfirmed reports, UK-born Fadel Asuma Banda has been denied access to his father’s time without number by his stepmother, Edwina Baaba Bansa, with whom he lives where his son broke in.
Fadel, who is said to have returned to Ghana to try to resolve problems with his father, complained of not being able to see him and was given the excuse that his father was unwell and in no condition to receive visitors.
“My next visit to the house for the second time was when the same guy (the security man) came out to inform me that my dad said he doesn’t want to see me.”
“I began to suspect what was happening with good reason; and if my dad didn’t want to see me, he had the right to at least hear it from ‘the horse’s own mouth’ if he had actually said it.
“It’s strange that my dad says he doesn’t want to see me, since I worked with him for 12 years as his manager and all of a sudden they tell me that he doesn’t want to see me. How? “He asked.
Some believe that Edwina Baaba Banda is responsible for the father-son rift.
However, while speaking to the police after the arrest of his son and his accomplices, Alhaji Banda is heard informing a police officer that he is unwilling to see his son, citing his son’s lack of respect for him. Apparently, she had also instructed her security team not to allow her son to enter the house.
According to the public relations officer of the Accra regional police, DSP Efia Tenge, they received information that some ‘thugs’ had invaded the residence of Alhaji Asuma Banda, located in the residential area of the airport.
“The District Commander sent personnel to the residence and, upon arrival, they met about 20 young people under the leadership of the businessman’s son, Fadel Asuma Banda.
“The men were seen in the compound of the house trying to break through the burglar-proof glass doors of the hallway and living room, where Alhaji Asuma Banda and his wife Edwina Baaba Banda, their children and other family members were they had taken refuge, “she declared.
Upon arrival, some 17 people managed to escape, however, security personnel managed to pick up the Fadel Asuma Band and 2 others.
DSP Efia Tenge further reported that a family member, Chief Alhassan Abubakar Banda, was assaulted and had his phone stolen in the process, which has now been recovered from the suspect.
Meanwhile, an armed guard has been posted at the facility to prevent future events of this nature and protect the Banda family.
