Porcupine Warriors coach sheds light on possible first appearance of October signing for club

Asante Kotoko’s manager Maxwell Konadu reveals that new Brazilian signing Fabio Gama Dos Santos is approaching his first appearance at the club.

Despite sealing a transfer to the Porcupine Warriors in October, the 28-year-old has yet to show up for the Kumasi team in a game due to fitness issues.

Before his change from Kotoko, he was inactive for seven months, having last played for second-division Swedish fold Jonkoping Sodra, with whom he parted ways in March.

“Now he’s almost ready while we work on his documentation, his fitness level is now good. I was impressed with the way he trained this week,” Konadu said, as reported by Footballghana.

“So let’s see the next few days, everything is ready and we will present it very soon.”

Gama, a former Brazilian Under-17 and Under-20 star, is the third Brazilian to sign for Kotoko in the last 15 years after Gleisson de Souza Ferreira in 2005 and Hermes da Silva in 2013.

“I’m going to train individually for now because I’m not 100 percent fit yet, but as soon as I’m ready, I’ll start training with the team,” Gama said, quoted by 3 News, last month.

“I can play like 15, 20, 30 minutes in the meantime and I hope to be fit to help my teammates have a great season.

“If I’m honest, I want to be a champion here. I didn’t come here just to play, but to be a champion, to win the national league and the Caf Champions League with Asante Kotoko.”

However, Gama’s acquisition has been criticized by many, including former club players.

“Hiring Fabio Gama is a waste of money. Kotoko’s recruitment is poor. They don’t give the player time to settle down and grow. Taking out players every season is their biggest problem, “former Kotoko midfielder Ashitey Ollenu told Energy FM.

Former Kotoko striker Amed Touré is also unhappy with the club’s decision: “We will pray for him [Gama] because I have said that the Ghana Premier League is not easy. It is a game of ‘men’. But it also depends on the conditions I play in Ghana, ”the Ivorian told Energy FM.

“I have seen photos of the field where Berekum Chelsea and Kotoko played. Do you think you can play on this type of field? Or you take him to Dormaa, do you think he can play well there? Are you sure you can play on Tarkwa? Sometimes these things matter.

“So for me, even though Kotoko is my former team and it’s where I started my professional career, for me I think it’s useless.”

Gama has also performed for the Swedish Varnomo and the Brazilian clubs Bahía, Botafago-SP, Botafago, Serrano-BA, Operario-MS, SE Gama, ABC, Itabaiana-SE and UR Trabaldore.
