The 28-year-old is now available to participate in the Porcupine Warriors, two months after his acquisition.
Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah has revealed that new Brazilian signing Fabio Gama Dos Santos has finally been cleared to make his first appearance at the club.
Taken in October, the 28-year-old has had to bide his time for an inaugural outing in the Kumasi outfit colors due to work permit issues.
He signed a two-year contract, following in the footsteps of fellow countrymen Gleisson de Souza Ferreira and Hermes da Silva to sign for Kotoko in recent times.
“Fabio Gama was supposed to be a direct replacement for [Matthew] Anim Cudjoe because we wouldn’t sign him, “Amponsah told Oyerepa FM on Saturday.” The only problem is with his work permit, but we have been able to get Gama’s work permit and he is available to play Al Hilal in Sudan. [in the Caf Champions League on January 6].
“We all long to have a creative player on the team, and Gama is there to provide that. We needed someone to hold onto the ball and do things for us.”
Amponsah also shed light on the recent sacking of head coach Maxwell Konadu following a 1-0 home loss to the Ghana Premier League Grand Olympics.
Media reports after Konadu’s dismissal were that Amponsah had confronted his club’s management regarding the coach’s departure.
“I made a mistake firing Maxwell Konadu because I did not officially write to report to the board,” admitted Amponsah. “I admit that I am wrong and I accept it.
“Maxwell Konadu’s record at Kotoko was not bad, but it was time for him to leave and other great clubs in the world have done so, but I admit again that I was wrong not to inform the board.”
Amponsah took over the reins from Kotoko’s CEO in August with a mandate to “restore glory.”
“Asante Kotoko is in good shape. I have said that Kotoko’s phase will change and I am still working towards it,” added Amponsah. “Rome was not built in a day. I know that in time we will get there. I have a task to complete and I am convinced that I will achieve our mandate.”
Kotoko last won the Ghana Premier League in 2014 and the Caf Champions League in 1983.
