Dele Alli was praised after the Spurs’ win against Stoke City on Wednesday night, and his move attracted the attention of experts.

José Mourinho’s team qualified for the Carabao Cup semi-finals with an away win in Stoke, and was rewarded with a home draw to Brentford in the new year.

Goals from Gareth Bale, Ben Davies and Harry Kane were enough to see Spurs over the finish line in a 3-1 win, with Alli named among the starters after a long period out of Mourinho’s plans for the first XI.

However, the England international impressed experts with his performance, even if there was a hint of rust in the ring on the 24-year-old.

“I think maybe it’s a bit of rust, his timing is a little out of time, he hasn’t played properly for a while now, especially not consecutively,” Darren Bent told Sky Sports.

“But his movement was really good, he looked really sharp. At the first opportunity, he could have done a little better.

“But he’s getting into those areas, running after Harry Kane, that’s what’s important, that’s when he’s at his best. I thought it was a good performance from him.”

Former Everton midfielder Leon Osman stated that Alli can be satisfied with his night’s outing, even though he grew tired as the game progressed.

“When you enter the team after being away for a long time, it is physically and mentally difficult,” added Osman.

“I thought in the first half he had played a very good game. In the second half, some of his decisions were tired decisions, where his legs were gone and his mind was gone and he couldn’t rebound from the ball.

“Considering that he has been away for a long time, he would be satisfied with his work that night.”
