The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pledged to create more jobs and factories in all districts of Ghana in its second term.
The PNP, since its return to power after its annihilation of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 general elections, created more than two million direct and indirect jobs for Ghana’s youth.
Seven hundred and seventy-eight thousand of those jobs were in the public sector, 268,000 in the formal private sector and 1,000,000 in government job creation programs, including the famous NaBCo, said Nana Akomea, a member of the PNP communication team.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, October 26, 2020 in Accra, Akomea recalled how the PNP in 2006 introduced the National Youth Employment Program.
“… The famous NYEP, arguably the first deliberate policy of any Fourth Republic government, to directly and systematically provide jobs for the youth of Ghana. For the two-year period from 2006 to 2008, he was provided with a total of 108,000 direct jobs under the NYEP, ”he stated.
“Sadly, very sadly,” he lamented, “in the period after 2008, when the PNP left office, the NYEP became the very infamous GYEEDA, and youth employment became a vehicle for some of the cases of corruption and theft of taxpayer money. in the history of the Republic ”.
Going forward, Akomea said that the next PNP government will ensure that job creation and the availability of jobs for young people increase sustainably.
He said Ghana’s youth should be particularly enthusiastic about the massive and sustained industrialization program that is taking place in the country, through the politics of a district, a factory.
“This particular program, in the next four (4) years, should result in one factory / manufacturing facility in every district of our country,” Akomea said.
“These factories will generate tens of thousands of direct jobs for you young people. Food processing factories will see processed more than 50% of our agricultural production (corn, tomatoes, peppers, corn, cassava, palm nuts, etc.), thus turning our currently predominantly peasant agriculture into a commercial business.
“The potential of this real development to provide jobs for young people is enormous. And this is not a chimera. This is a reality that will be fulfilled in the next four years in the PNP government, ”he said.
