Ethiopian schools reopen after seven months | General news

Schools in Ethiopia will reopen starting Monday after closing for more than seven months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Schools will reopen in stages and students from rural districts will return to classes first.

Schools were closed after the country reported its first coronavirus case in March.

The country aims to reopen all primary and secondary schools in mid-November.

Some parents are wary of sending their children to school, but the Education Ministry has said it was taking the necessary steps to minimize the risk of the virus spreading in schools.

One of the measures is to distribute 50 million masks for students and teachers.

Those in their senior year of high school will still have to take their exams next year, online.

Ethiopia has not introduced full lockdowns during the pandemic. A five-month state of emergency ended in early September and the country has returned to relative normalcy.
