Manchester City defender Eric Garcia has told Barcelona that he is willing to play for nothing if his transfer can be arranged in this window.

Barcelona have offered £ 2.7 million for his services but, with huge debts, there is opposition within the club to complete a deal now, as he will join for free in the summer.

Presidential candidate Víctor Font said: ‘We are asking the interim board to sign Garcia. The city would accept 3 million euros plus accessories and we would not have to pay until next season. The player is also willing not to receive a salary until the end of the season. ‘

The 20-year-old has many suitors, including Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly, but his preferred destination is a return to Barcelona.

Barça have been the big favorites with manager Ronald Koeman willing to bring in a central defender before the transfer window closes on Monday, but with the club’s presidential elections being delayed, that is now in doubt.

The Spanish giants announced a couple of weeks ago that their elections, originally scheduled for last weekend, would not take place due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and the hiring of players is not the province of interim president Carles Tusquets.

Garcia has appeared just eight times for City this season, and his last appearance was in their 3-1 FA Cup fourth-round win over Cheltenham on January 23.
