– The Western Region registers more cases of epilepsy
– A mental health nurse says the case is frequent among men.
– Approximately 65 million people around the world live with epilepsy.
More epilepsy cases are being recorded at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Western Region.
According to a mental health nurse registered in the hospital’s psychiatry department, Nelly Mensah, 506 cases of epilepsy were recorded in 2020 alone, describing the development as “worrisome.”
Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder that affects 65 million people worldwide with various factors such as high fever, head injury, low blood sugar, and alcohol withdrawal causing seizures.
He hinted that the commonly reported causes are lack of sleep, illness or fever, stress, bright lights, caffeine, alcohol, medications or skipping meals, overeating, and allergies to specific food ingredients, adding that the rest are pictures, smells and unusual sounds.

Police dispatch passengers were warned not to escort unauthorized vehicles or face penalties. The warning was given on behalf of the Inspector General of Police by the General Directors of Social Welfare and MTTD.
COP Ms. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah and COP Mr. Frederick Adu-Anim respectively. This was in a meeting with Dispatch Riders at Police Headquarters.
Motorcyclists were also advised to drive carefully and use Police Service motorcycles for official duties only.
