The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has taken over the luxurious home of the former managing director of the defunct UT Bank, Mr. Prince Kofi Amoabeng, MyNewsGh.com confirmed.

The house according to the controls of this portal is located in Kukurantumi in the East Akim district of the eastern region. It was built 15 years ago by the businessman and former military man.

EOCO’s MyNewsGh.com verifications reveal that the latest action was taken last Friday with the explanation that it is under investigation, asking the public or assignees to stay away.

A notice at the entrance of the house says “This property is being investigated by EOCO. Walk away”.

Mr. Prince Kofi Amoabeng or his attorneys have declined to comment on the matter, but EOCO officials, when contacted about the MyNewsGh.com investigations, confirmed taking control of the home but declined to elaborate.

Background

The Attorney General (AG) in February this year brought new charges in Accra High Court against Prince Kofi Amoabeng, founder of the late UTBank, for the bank’s collapse.

The charge sheet filed in Accra High Court listed Dr. Johnson Asiama as defendants; a former Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Raymond Amanfu; a former Head of the BoG Banking Supervision Division (BSD), Catherine Johnson; The UTBank Chief of Treasury, Robert Kwesi Armah; General Manager of Corporate Banking of UT Bank and UT Holdings; the parent company of UT Bank.

All five have been charged by the State with forty-two (42) counts of fraudulent breach of trust, fabrication of evidence, deception of a public official, fraudulently causing financial losses to the Republic, contravention of Bank of Ghana law and intentionally causing Loss to the Republic.
