Ansu Fati became the youngest scorer in Spanish history during the international break in September, but Luis Enrique has asked for patience when speaking of the 17-year-old.
The La Roja coach discarded the idea that he would build a system around Ansu Fati or around any player.
“It’s not about building a system around it, as the team is above everyone else, but we can do some things if we think it will solve matches,” he said when asked about this at a press conference Tuesday.
“There is no system built for one player.
“The system is the team.
“There is a need for calm with Ansu Fati, to allow him to grow as a person and as a player.”
The coach when he spoke about the fact that Spain does not have a world-class forward at the moment.
“Any coach would love to have a figure like Harry Kane, Luis Suárez or Marco van Basten,” said Luis Enrique.
“But we don’t have this type of player, so we will try to create many chances and score goals through many options.
“There will be a lot of rotation of players and positions up front, where we do have very good forwards.
“Our midfielders can also score goals, it is something collective.”
The manager was also asked how different it is to have three matches during this international break instead of the usual two.
“I would like to have more training sessions, but we will adapt,” he said.
“It’s the same for all the national team coaches right now.
“In the friendly against Portugal we can try things and we can prioritize rest and give minutes to whoever needs it.”
The friendly against Portugal will take place on Wednesday night at the José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon, before UEFA Nations League matches at home to Switzerland and away from Ukraine.
