The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has taken advantage of the limitless limits of technology to improve the efficiency of passport operations in general to improve service delivery, said the Minister of the sector, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, on the occasion of the launch Central Regional Passport Application Service on Friday, November 20, 2020.

He said the ministry embraced the government’s digitization agenda by automating the passport acquisition process through the online application system.

The online application system is an appointment-based system whereby the applicant is free to select a center of their choice and a convenient time for the applicant.

This is a total departure from the old manual application system that was plagued with challenges ranging from overcrowding at PACs, incorrect form filling, middleman interference, among other flaws.

The new system process ensures order in the PACs, as they will only serve applicants whose appointments are pending processing. Flexibility and transparency in service delivery are additional benefits of the online application system.

“With the official opening of this Center, residents of this Region can now apply for a passport here on Cape Coast without having to travel to Takoradi or Accra for such service,” said Ms Ayorkor Botchwey.

He added: “Therefore, the citizens of Cape Coast and the surrounding areas starting today will enjoy the fruits of passport operations at their doorstep and the associated benefits that were previously absent in this beautiful and vibrant region.”

“It is also anticipated that the establishment of a Passport Application Center in Cape Coast would create more opportunities in the supply chain where youth and school dropouts can tap into and establish their own small businesses.”

“I urge residents to make good use of the center, cooperate with officials, and also provide useful feedback to the office to allow the Passport office to improve its service delivery. I have full confidence that the officer in charge and staff stationed in this PAC will provide efficient and quality service to applicants. As you assert your authority in the performance of your duties, I urge you to be respectful of all who approach you seeking the services of this office. “

“At this juncture, I would like to express my deep appreciation to all the actors and partners of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration who worked diligently to this point. A special mention should be made of counselor Kwamena Duncan through whose instrumentality and the positive collaboration of the CCR this office has become a reality today ”.

“I am hopeful that the RCC will continue to support the Passport office in its operations when necessary. I also want to thank the contractor who so cleverly renovated the office, the technical staff at the passport office, as well as the service providers, who set up the office for operations. “

“Finally, I would also like to make a call to the good people of the Central region to adhere to and observe the covid-19 protocols; the use of nasal masks, hand washing, the use of hand sanitizers and social distancing so that we can all be safe and alive ”.
