Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed that he urged Thomas Partey will join Arsenal’s ‘family club’ against Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United.

Ghanaian midfielder Partey joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in September after the Gunners fulfilled their £ 45m buyout clause.

The 27-year-old contacted Adebayor before leaving Atlético for advice, and Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United were reportedly interested in closing a deal.

Adebayor, who spent three years at Arsenal, says he urged Partey to join the north London club as the move would be “good for his development.”

Speaking at an event in Ghana, Adebayor said: ‘He told me that some clubs in England, namely Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and others have shown interest in him and he needs advice.

I advised him to go to Arsenal because I have had the opportunity to play there and I think it will be good for his development.

“Arsenal are more than a club, they are a family and I am impressed with their performances so far in the Premier League.”

Partey has enjoyed a promising start to his career at Arsenal, although the Gunners are just 11th in the Premier League after a losing streak.

The Ghanaian was substituted at half-time during Arsenal’s loss to Aston Villa before the international break, but the the concern about injuries doesn’t seem too serious.

Last month, former Arsenal and England star Paul Merson described Partey as the “signing of the summer.”

He told Sky Sports: ‘I think Partey is a big difference. I mean, what a signing.

“When it comes to transfers in the summer, it has to be number one. I can’t believe, without being horrible here, that Arsenal caught him. ‘
