Unai Emery has explained his decision to leave Takefusa Kubo from the Villarreal squad to face Levante on Saturday at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
The former Arsenal manager revealed that the Japanese forward is unhappy with his role in the Yellow Submarine and is willing to leave in January in search of playing time elsewhere.
“Talk to [Kubo] Two days ago and I asked him for the information that comes in, if he really wants to stay or go, “Emery said after Villarreal’s 2-1 victory over Levante.
“He confirmed that he was looking for a way out because he plays less than he thinks he has to play. We have never said that we want him to leave. I am looking for players who think of Villarreal.”
“His behavior is good and when he has had his head at Villarreal he has helped us.
“He still lacks things, but he has the potential to continue growing, with patience and getting more minutes and game experiences. But he considers that in his situation he needs to play more.”
Getafe have already expressed interest in Kubo and are reportedly in advanced talks to seal the acquisition of the Real Madrid loan in January.
