The Future Builder Scouts (FBS), an American non-governmental organization, has built a state-of-the-art community library in Awiebo, in the Ellembelle district of the western region.
This library is an exciting new collaboration between FBS and schools throughout the Ellembelle district and beyond.
It is the first of its kind in the Western Region, with the aim of fostering reading among future leaders and also helping them experiment with new ideas.
The facility also has an ICT center designed to strengthen research among higher education students and distance students.
Speaking at the ceremony in Awiebo near Nzema Aiyinasi on Friday, November 4, 2020, Future Builders Corps (FBS) founder and president, Mr. Kofi Anaman thanked Member of Parliament for the Ellembelle constituency, Emmanuel Armah Kofi -Buah for donating 50 bags of cement for the construction of the building
He also applauded the contractor, the boss, and the Awiebo residents for supporting the project.
Mr. Kofi Anaman pointed out that the results of BECE and WASSCE in the last three years have decreased, hence the need to establish community libraries to instill the culture of reading and research among schoolchildren in the area.
“When we brought Future Builders Scouts to the Ellembelle district in 2018, I noticed that the district’s BECE performance is declining and according to records, in 2016 BECE’s performance was 75 percent, but as we speak it is It has dropped to 45 percent and it is for this reason that I collaborated with my friends in the United States to build this library to help solve the problem, so that all schools in the Ellembelle district and other districts in the western region have free access to this facility, “he said.
Mr. Anaman noted that most school-age children lack adequate supervision to study at home, so the library will serve as a center for learning and research.
Anaman said a number of activities have been outlined such as forming a book club, literary circles, reading camps, a website, software to borrow books from home, and teaching children without formal computer education.
For his part, the deputy from the area highlighted the importance of community libraries in research work and the delivery of good quality education in the country.
According to him, libraries offer a lifetime opportunity to access information relevant to the human mind.
Mr. Armah Kofi-Buah said the NDC has a track record when it comes to education in the constituency.
Therefore, he advised schoolchildren to take advantage of the library and dedicate more time to their studies.
He praised Future Builders Scouts founder and president Mr. Kofi Anaman for the vision of transforming the city through education and pledged to donate GHC500 to support internet connectivity monthly and GHC2,000 to support salary payment. from the workers.
