Former Deputy Information Minister Felix Ofosu Kwakye failed to win the seat in the electoral district of Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK) on the list of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Mr. Ofosu Kwakye, he lost by 176 votes.
In a Facebook post congratulating PNP’s Elvis Morris Donkor, the outspoken politician said victory was near.
“It was so close but so far for me. I lost by 176 votes. Congratulations Elvis Morris Donkor and better luck to me next time. I am also deeply grateful to all of you who supported my offer in various ways, ”he wrote.
While the PNP’s Donkor obtained 25,048 votes representing 49.19 percent, Ofosu Kwakye obtained 24,872 representing 48.84 percent.
The representative of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) obtained 1,001 votes representing 1.97 percent.
The defeat of Mr. Kwakye Ofosu follows an announcement by the NDC Director of Elections, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, at a press conference at dawn Tuesday that the party has changed the seat of the PNP.
But this was instantly denied by the ruling party at a press conference.
According to the party’s secretary general, John Boadu, the PNP has seized some seats in the NDC stronghold and was confidently on its way to retaining its majority status in parliament.
