Asawase constituency MP-elect Muntaka Mubarak says the 2020 election petition filed by John Dramani Mahama against the EC and Akufo-Addo will strengthen Ghana’s democracy.

“I belong to the group that continues to insist that whatever it is, we go to court.

“Some of us believe that democracy is strengthened through this process. Forget about the result, whether it goes well or not, it adds to the country’s democratic credentials, ”he said.

In an interview with Evans Mensah of JoyNews, Muntaka Mubarak stated that the appointment of Supreme Court justices by President Akufo-Addo may interfere with the administration of justice.

“11 of the total judges of the Supreme Court were appointed by Nana Addo and people think that this is nothing. In our history, we have never had the Supreme Court beyond 15. In March, when we were investigating, we brought the figures to 19 and no one said anything in this country. “

However, he is hopeful that the Supreme Court justices will be rational to do the right thing when evaluating the 2020 election petition.

“I want to believe that our judges will be rational. They will have to be aware of the consequences of whatever decision they make. I want to believe that they will do the right thing. “

The standard bearer of the Democratic National Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama filed a petition on Wednesday to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential elections declared by the president of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa.

His action follows several statements by the party that described the EC’s verdict as flawed and fictitious.

Muntaka Mubarak is determined that the evidence in the NDC’s possession would change the presidential election results “even if President Nana Addo is on the panel.”

“Whoever thought that Malawi could have a repeat of the opposition to win it. Whoever thought of Kenya, the court would say ‘the evidence before us is heavy, we cannot allow this injustice,’ he added.
