James Kwabena Bomfeh, former secretary general of the Popular Convention Party (CPP), jumped in defense of the Electoral Commission (EC) over claims that the Commission wants to manipulate the 2020 elections.

The accusation of manipulation has resurfaced after an altercation by the deputy secretary general of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otukonor, at the headquarters of the EC during a ceremony for political parties to select the positions of their presidential candidates on the ballot.

The candidates are President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Christian Kwabena Andrews (Trade Union Movement of Ghana), Brigitte Akosua Dzogbenuku (Party of the Progressive Peoples), Akua Donkor (Ghana Freedom Party), Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (National Democratic Party), Hassan Ayariga (All Peoples Congress), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet (People’s Convention Party), Henry Herbert Lartey ( Great Consolidated People’s Party), Percival Kofi Akpaloo (Ghana Liberal Party), David Asibi Ayindenaba Apasera (National People’s Congress) and an independent candidate, Alfred Kwame Asiedu Walker.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) chose the first position on the ballot, while the largest opposition Democratic National Congress represented by the party’s deputy general secretary, Mr. Peter Boamah Otukonor, selected the number two position (2 ) for your party.

The Ghana Trade Union Movement ranked third, the Convention People’s Party ranked fourth, the Ghana Freedom Party ranked fifth, the Great Consolidated People’s Party ranked sixth, the People’s Congress ranked seventh, the Ghana Liberal Party, National People’s Congress, Progressive People’s Party, National Democratic Party and Independent candidate Alfred Kwame Asiedu Walker will rank eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth respectively on the ballot.

Peter Boamah Otukonor is said to have supported the position of his party’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama, saying that it shows that there is a collusion between the EC and the government to rig the elections in favor of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is the number 1 on the ballot.

Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, James Kwabena Bomfeh, aka Kabila, was determined behind the integrity of the EC.

He emphatically stated that the Electoral Commission cannot manipulate elections.

According to him, in this era in which there is a proliferation of media organizations added to the fact that the eye of the media is following all electoral activities, it will never happen that the Commission can play with the electoral results.

He struck out at the opposition Democratic National Congress, telling leaders to do their homework well and to stop pestering the Electoral Commission because the manipulation they anticipate “will never happen.” Let’s stop saying that. Those attacks on the Electoral Commission must stop. ”

“Those who, as a result of your weakness in 2016, were unable to compile the independent presidential election results compiled by your party’s own machinery – please review why they didn’t do that or couldn’t do that and work on it. in the capacity of anyone and I mean anyone to manipulate elections at this time and go unnoticed, “he added.

“What has changed in the principle that elections are held in polling stations, so they are lost or won in polling stations?”
