This year’s elections could be classified as a Classic among rival political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP).
For the first time in Ghana’s political history, a former president will contest a sitting president for the presidential seat and the campaign season has already started with both parties doing their best for Ghanaian votes.
NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama wants to be president again, while President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is seeking a second term in government.
Both the ruling PNP and the opposition NDC have released their manifesto and made promises to the Ghanaians.
There are predictions that the election results will be adjusted unlike the 2016 elections where the PNP led by Nana Akufo-Addo won by overwhelming victory.
Reviewing the NDC manifesto on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’, the central regional minister, Kwamena Duncan, has warned Ghanaians not to elect the former president during general elections.
He reminded them of some statements that Mahama made when he was president, where he said Ghanaians have a short memory after citizens bitterly complained about their bad governance.
Kwamena Duncan advised Ghanaians not to make another mistake and to be fooled by Mahama’s political tricks.
“Are we shooting former President Mahama in the arm? Are we shooting him in the arm when he describes to the entire country that we are a people with little memory?” I ask.
As a country, we seek to shoot this man in the arm who, all of us, have a short memory. His presidency from July 2012 to 2016, this country was simply stranded. The economy, every year, was just giving us guarantees [every year, every year] and, finally, his inability to manage led us into the hands of the IMF; dumsor continuously for four to five years. The one who is standing must be careful lest he fall.
“Let Ghanaians be reminded of the bad government of former President John Mahama. Therefore, let no one come to speak about the manifesto,” he warned.
