The standard bearer of the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, will present his nomination for the 2020 presidential elections on Wednesday, October 7, 2020.
In a post on his Facebook page, Mahama said that he had reviewed all of his nomination forms and signed the relevant parts.
This follows an announcement by the Ghana Election Commission to begin the presentation of presidential and parliamentary candidates.
While the filing fee for the presidential candidate has been set at ¢ 100,000, parliamentary candidates are expected to pay ¢ 10,000 through a bank transfer.
Among other things, the president of the Commission, Jean Mensa, had explained that the completed and approved forms must be presented together with some documents, among them; four passport-size photographs on a red background, a statutory statement, a cover letter from the political parties, and a tax clearance certificate.
He said that unlike in previous years when the submission of the forms took place amid jubilation and cheers, the Commission would not entertain more than five people present during the submission process due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Recognizing this directive in his position, the former president said that the presentation of the form will be carried out by the Secretary General of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
Meanwhile, 12 political parties and three independent candidates have so far downloaded the nomination forms to contest the 2020 presidential elections.
A source from the Electoral Commission (EC) said that after a meeting on Friday afternoon, eight political parties, including the National Democratic Congress, the New Patriotic Party and the Ghana Trade Union Movement indicated their presentation dates.
The source said the EC was hopeful that all parties and independent presidential hopefuls would submit their nominations in time after successfully downloading the forms.
In accordance with the Commission’s schedule, the presidential and parliamentary candidates for the general elections on December 7, 2020 will submit nominations from Monday, October 5 to Friday, October 9.
