The president of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Professor Stephen Adei, has said that the current New Patriotic Party (PNP) is likely to maintain a second term in government.

According to the educator, his assessment of the current preparations for the impending presidential and parliamentary elections suggests that the ruling party is so far the favorite of the electorates.

“I think things are loaded in NPP’s favor. First, when Rawlings created the Upper West region, they voted nearly 100 percent for the NDC for nearly 20 years. Akufo-Addo has created six new regions and I think it will have a great impact on the elections, “he said.

The former GIMPA rector spoke during an interaction with Joy News’ Daniel Dadzie on Monday, where he also stated that President Akufo-Addo’s track record in education and road infrastructure will be beneficial to him as Ghana heads towards the December 2020 elections.

“I think Ghanaians are going to vote on the basis of about three things. One is education, and I think the dice are in favor of the NPP.

“They are also going to vote on the roads … the PNP has done no worse than the NDC, therefore, it will not be too much in favor of any party,” he said.

According to his assessment, the political party led by Akufo-Addo has a stronghold in the Akan ethnic areas, which gives them a boost over the opposition NDC. Hence another advantage.

Professor Stephen Adei is an educator, writer, economist, and motivational speaker. He also serves as chairman of the board of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

The academic was former Head of the United Nations System in South Africa, UNDP Resident Representative in Namibia, Economist and Head of the Directorate of the UNDP Africa Office before leaving the UN.
