The attention of the Electoral Commission (EC) has been drawn to isolated incidents of alteration of ballots in 2 polling stations.

Several presidential ballots issued to some voters at two polling stations in the Awutu Senya West and Bawku Central constituencies did not have the PNP candidate.

It started from the # 2 position held by John Mahama of NDC.

According to a statement issued by the Commission on the incident, it said the suspected officers have been removed from their posts pending further investigations.

“The Commission, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, has identified the suspected officers and dismissed them pending further investigations.”

The EC has warned the general public to be vigilant, because “for a correctly thumb-printed ballot to be considered valid and counted, all presidential candidates must be on the ballot.”

Speaking on the matter, Mr. Serebour Quaicoo underscored the seriousness of the matter and described it as a malicious act on the part of the ballot caster.

“In elections, you cannot underestimate such a thing. A ballot issuer, casting a ballot without the full compliment of the candidates, without the serial number of the ballot? So what other reason can you give besides being naughty, “he said.

Furthermore, the Commission “pleads with all its staff and field officials to allow the truth to guide them and integrity preserve them as they continue this important exercise.

“We also urge the agents of the Political Parties and Candidates and the General Public to be vigilant to ensure a free, fair, credible and transparent election.”
