Manchester United bigwig Ed Woodward may have to break a rule that has been under club ownership by the Glazer family to turn things around at the club.

The Red Devils seem to be in a bit of a rut right now.

And the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is mounting after another disappointing start to the Premier League season that has left him 15th.

The Norwegian’s only saving grace had been the magnificent victories over PSG and RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

But their excellent European backing even fell apart when United lost 2-1 to Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday night.

Now there is talk that Solskjaer was fired by those above at Old Trafford.

However, that would go against the club’s policy adopted during Glazer’s reign of not firing a coach until qualification for the Champions League is mathematically impossible.

This rule ensured that David Moyes saw almost a full season before being fired in 2014, while Louis van Gaal lasted two full years.

José Mourinho is said to have been the only exception to the case, as the atmosphere had become “toxic” at the club.

Solskjaer declined to comment on his future after the defeat in Turkey, insisting he was just doing the best job possible.

“I refuse to comment on such a thing,” Solskjaer said. “Of course it is early and the opinions are there all the time.

But their start to the season has been mixed, with a loss at home to Crystal Palace and a 6-1 win by Spurs at one end of the scale, and a tremendous 2-1 win over PSG in Paris in the other.

The question now is whether they can find the right balance.
