Unfortunately, the disgusting and annoying hum of generators across the country went on for more than five years to the utter dismay of the good people of Ghana.
Given the negative effects of the dumsor on Ghanaians, it would only take a polemical character to suggest that insightful Ghanaians soon forgot and forgave Mahama for deliberately collapsing their businesses through the dumsor.
Nor can we deny or ignore the fact that for more than five years, Mahama’s dumper sadly brought business to a standstill as a result of mismanagement of the economy.
Given the circumstances, we can understand how and why some concerned Ghanaians, including some supporters within the NDC, have voiced their disgust at former President Mahama’s desperation to return to the presidency after being voted massively in 2016 due to his lousy performance.
Skeptics apparently insist that Mahama was not up to the task during his tenure in office and therefore do not expect picky Ghanaians to forgive and forget his terrible errors of judgment and vote him back to the presidency. in 2020.
If you recall, then-NPP running mate Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia made it clear to the good folks of Ghana that the dumsor was due to financial constraints due to the inexcusable economic mismanagement of the Mahama administration.
As expected at the time, the NDC faithful vehemently and unnecessarily refuted Dr. Mahmoud Bawumia’s revelation.
Therefore, it would appear that the Mahama government did not take dumsor as a priority area.
Dear reader, please tell me, if dumsor was a priority area for the Mahama administration, how come the NDC government instead of paying dubious judgment debts to the tune of 800 million GH instead of buying fuel to generate Energy?
In fact, it is not unreasonable to conclude that the Mahama administration did not attribute any severity to the power crisis.
Interestingly, in the 2013 World Bank Business Survey on the African Economy, with special emphasis on Nigeria and Ghana, the report concludes that ‘dumsor’ (erratic electricity supply) is the biggest obstacle to economic growth in Africa and the biggest obstacle for multinational investors. (World Bank 2013).
Evidently, however, in the gloomy days of dummy under the Mahama administration, amid the plagued buzz of generators across the country, most businesses closed amid massive unemployment.
In those days, freelancers like Barbers, Ice Kenkey Sellers, Butchers, among others, were the most affected.
However, disappointingly, in desperation to solve a serious problem as a dumsor, the Mahama administration ambivalently signed superfluous ‘Take or Pay’ power purchase agreements (PPAs) in which Ghana is unnecessarily paying more than $ 600 million per year for additional energy that we do not receive. need.
By gleefully signing the excessive Power Purchase Agreements and entering into a dire ‘Take or Pay’ agreement, Ghanaian consumers are unfairly forced to pay exorbitant electricity rates as a result of the negligence of the Mahama government.
However, it is a pleasure that since then the PNP government has controlled the dumsor under the able leadership of President Akufo-Addo.
Yet surprisingly, given that the dumsor massively affected the businesses of staunch NDC supporters, it is quite ironic that the same people are clamoring for the return of someone who intentionally collapsed their businesses through erratic electricity supply (dumsor). How ironic?
In short, it is only NDC supporters who will refuse to recall the negative effects of the Mahama dumsor on the Ghanaian economy.
But some of us, as a matter of principle, are no strangers to the negative effects of the dumsor, and therefore well aware of the apocalypse of Mahama claiming the presidency.
