EC debunks NDC’s accusation of attempting to rig polls

The electoral commission (EC) has discredited statements made about them by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of conspiring to manipulate the December 7 polls.

During a press conference on Sunday, the opposition party declared that the EC has printed more than 150,000 additional ballot papers and has deliberately not released details of the processes, believing that this is an attempt to manipulate the elections.

Speaking on the AM Show, EC Acting Director of Public Affairs Sylvia Annoh indicated that the EC does not print ballot papers on the blind side of political parties.

According to the acting director of public affairs of the EC, the Commission “prints 100, 50, 25 and 10 ballots”, which makes it difficult to print ballots by the exact number of electorate in a constitution.

“We have our brochure at 100, 50, 25 and 10, so depending on each scenario, if you have a polling station with 88 voters, you should add 5%.

“We need to strategize and make sure some can go a little higher. And that does not mean that we are only increasing the ballot, “he added.

According to the NDC, according to convention and EC practice over the years, the EC must print an additional five percent of the total registered voters at each polling station to service voided ballots, however, the EC has impressions beyond the required percentage.

Sylvia Annoh added that the political parties during the printing process had the opportunity to observe the procedure, so they are supposed to know the number of ballots that go to the field of each printing press.

Additionally, he asked the NDC to seek clarification with the Election Commission leadership on any concerns raised by the party.

“If the NDC has a genuine problem, I think they should consult the Election Commission leaders.”

The acting director assured the general public that he will guarantee an election free from any form of injustice.

“I can assure you without any doubt that we are not doing anything contrary to what we have in store,” he said.
