A driver who allegedly ran over a 5-year-old boy in Tweeneboa, near Odorkor in Accra, on Christmas Eve, appeared in Kaneshie District Court.

The victim, who was in the company of two other children when the incident occurred, died while receiving treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on the same day.

The driver, David Kwesi Asamani, has been charged with careless and inconsiderate driving and causing damage through negligence.

The Court, chaired by Ms. Ama Adomako Kwakye, upheld Asamani’s allegation, while the Police requested the advice of the Attorney General.

The Court, however, admitted Asamani to bail in the amount of GHC15,000 with two guarantees. Asamani is expected to reappear on February 1.

The prosecutor, Inspector John Baidoo, said that on December 24 of this year at around 3:00 pm, Asamani was driving a Toyota Corolla car with registration number GX 1563-18, from Hansonic to Odorkor, Tweneboa along the unpaved road Otaten.

Inspector Baidoo said that Asamani, upon reaching a section of the road at Samodak Company, did not take due care and attention and knocked down the 5-year-old boy who was in the company of two other children running from the near side of the road .

The prosecution said the victim suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Korle-Bu University Hospital, but died while receiving treatment the same day.

Inspector Baidoo said the boy’s body had been deposited in the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
