Dreams FC Administrative Manager Ameenu Shardow has revealed that the club has failed to pay its players during the coronavirus period.
The 2019/20 national football season came to an end in mid-March following the outbreak of the pandemic, but was subsequently canceled on June 30 following a decision by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association.
With the 2020/21 football season scheduled to begin on November 13, Shardow recounted that players have yet to receive their salaries due to the impact of the new pandemic.
“We have not paid salaries to players during the Covid-19 period,” he told Joy Sports. “We don’t have money to pay, that’s the simple truth. Even FIFA realized that there is a problem and that is why they brought in the Covid Relief Fund.
“We had an argument [with the players] about it. One great thing about Dreams FC is that we operate the club in a corporate vein but as a family. When we are happy and we have the resources, everyone enjoys and knows it. We are very open about that, ”he told Hans Mensah Andoh.
“Where there are also difficulties, people are aware. In fact, people [players] We were drawn to the difficulties and we were trying to find solutions for the club to stay afloat, so for us and I’m sure it goes through a lot of clubs, even superpowers. In fact, we are still in this period. Now we are trying to get out of a trial period. “
Shardow noted that this period has taught the club to prepare for future events.
“But it also taught us many lessons as a club that we cannot continue to operate in this way. We have to operate in such a way that [we prepare for] future events. It has really changed the way we view our business going forward. “
