Dr. Felix Anyah Named Chairman of the Board of Hospital Ho Teaching

Dr. Felix Anyah, former acting CEO of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of Ho Teaching Hospital.

This follows the commissioning of the Board of Trustees of Ho en Ho Teaching Hospital and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital by H.E. Minister of Health, Mr. Kwaku Agyeman Manu.

The event was held in the auditorium of the Ministry of Health in Accra.

During the inauguration, Dr. Felix Anyah thanked the President for the honors that had been done to him.

He promised to help develop the new Teaching Hospital into an enviable Teaching Hospital with a quaternary service that will link with international accreditation bodies such as JCI International in others to promote medical / health tourism in the hospital and the Volta region, as well as make Ghana a Medical Tourism Center.

Also, the new Chairman of the Board of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is Mr. Daniel Charles Gyimah, Consulting Engineer.

The Minister of Health addressing the inauguration event said that the new Boards are the first under the long-awaited amendment to Section 37 of Act 525 of the Ghana Health Services and Teaching Hospitals Act, 1996.

According to the minister, under the Ghana Teaching Hospitals and Health Service Act 525 of 1996, the membership of the Teaching Hospital Boards then consisted of approximately 80% of the hospital administration staff.

He emphasized that for an efficient Corporate Governance, the Board of Directors is now made up of 10 professionals who are not from the Hospital Management with only the Hospital General Director as a member, forming a total composition of 11. It is in light that Article 37 of the Law 525, which defines the membership of Ghana’s teaching hospitals and health service, was amended by Parliament and passed on December 27, 2019.

The minister said that under the new amendment law, members of the boards of Ghana’s teaching hospitals and health service consist of

  • President
  • A legal practitioner
  • A doctor
  • An allied healthcare professional
  • A pharmacist
  • A nurse / midwife

All of no less than 10 years standing

Other members include:

  • 2 representatives with considerable experience in research in health education and nominated by the university council
  • A financial consultant and
  • A private sector entrepreneur
  • Executive Director of the Hospital

About Dr. Felix Anyah

Dr. Anyah graduated as a physician 41 years ago from the University of Ghana School of Medicine, Korle Bu.

Distinguished himself as a clinician in private medical practice as Director of Holy Trinity Medical Center, Accra and Holy Trinity Spa & Health Farm, Sogakope, health columnist, businessman, philanthropist, member of the Ghana Medical and Dental Council, pioneer in health / medicine integrative, as well as in medical and health tourism in Ghana, but in recent years has played a prominent role in public sector management and administration in Ghana.

In 2015-2016, Dr. Felix Anyah was appointed Chairman of the Board of the Health Facilities and Regulatory Agency by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.

In 2017, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed him Acting CEO of Korle Bu University Hospital for one year.

and now re-elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hospital Ho Teaching.

Ho University Hospital, formerly Volta Regional Hospital (Trafalgar), was established in 1998 and formally commissioned by Flt. Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings in December 2000.

The hospital has been the Volta regional hospital for 17 years until it was put back into service on April 29, 2019 as a Teaching Hospital by H.E. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, the Minister of Health.
