Dortmund boss responds to Erling Haaland’s departure claims when potential replacement emerges

Borussia Dortmund sports director Michael Zorc insists there is no problem with Mino Raiola despite the fact that the agent publicly discussed Erling Haaland’s possible departure this week.

The 20-year-old forward is the most sought-after talent in Europe after his last impressive performance in the Champions League.

Haaland scored two goals against Sevilla in a 3-2 win in the first leg of their round of 16 tie, bringing his overall tally for the season to 27 goals in just 25 appearances.

He has only been in Dortmund for just over a year, but his possible departure is already being discussed, with his £ 65m release clause set to kick in in 2022.

Speaking on Monday, Raiola told the BBC : “Only a maximum of 10 clubs can afford to buy it and give it the platform they would like after having been in Dortmund … and four of those clubs are in [England]. ”

Recent reports have suggested Chelsea and Man City are looking to pounce on their rivals by launching a bid for Haaland this summer, even if it means paying beyond their release clause fee.

Manchester United and Real Madrid will closely monitor the situation, although the general feeling is that Haaland will stay and continue his development at Dortmund for another season.

And Zorc is convinced that the club is not worried about Raiola promoting the possible transfer of his client.

“It is clear that Erling Haaland cannot and will not choose any club after his time in Dortmund,” he said. “I can’t even pick 10 possible clubs. Therefore, there is no dissension.

“It was a normal statement that he [Raiola] has to give in from time to time. We are happy to have Erling here with us and that he has scored in the last few games and has proved his worth for us.

“I can only say that we will continue planning with him and I don’t think he will feel uncomfortable here in Dortmund.”

Meanwhile, a potential candidate to replace Haaland has emerged in the form of former Dortmund striker Alexander Isak.

The 21-year-old Swede spent two years with the German club from 2017-19, although he was on loan at Willem II for one season.

Isak is now exercising his trade at Real Sociedad, where he has been going through a purple streak of form lately.

And Sky Germany reports that Dortmund had a buyback clause embedded in their deal when they sold it to the Spanish club, with Zorc now keeping a close eye on it.

“We believe that he took the right step by going to Real Sociedad,” Zorc said at a press conference. “At first he impressed as a substitute and scored goals.

“He has become a regular starter this season and scored a lot of goals in recent weeks. Of course we are following all of that.”
