The Supreme Head of the Dormaa Traditional Council, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang-Badu II, has supported the call for the leaders of the two main political parties to debate national issues as Ghana prepares for the general elections on December 7.

The presidential candidate of the Democratic National Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, recently extended invitations for a presidential debate to President Akufo-Addo, but the president refused.

President Akufo-Addo has also declined other invitations for a presidential debate.

John Mahama paid a courtesy visit to the Dormaa Ahenkro Chiefs during his 2-day tour to the Bono region on Thursday.

During his visit, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang-Badu said that it is important for political leaders to participate in a national debate before the elections to inform voters and deepen democracy in Ghana.

He said: “I strongly support this debate between the two presidential candidates so that Ghanaians know the party with the best record and therefore decide who to vote for.”

Oseadeeyo Agyemang-Badu II, therefore, urged the parties to reach an agreement on the need for a presidential debate for the benefit of the voters and in the interest of the country’s democracy.

He said it is important for political parties to compare his record of achievements in government to challenge and encourage successive governments to do more for him.
