The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has ensured the safety of the Ghanaians with regard to surveillance activities in the country.
According to her, President Nana Akufo-Addo has promised to severely punish any individual who intends to wreak havoc during the upcoming 2020 general election.
In a meeting with some ECOWAS election observers, he said the president has even promised to deal with members of his own party (PNP) in case they try to disturb the country’s peace on December 7.
“The president has said several times during his campaign that if someone dares to destroy the elections he will make sure that person is taken care of. He will take care of everyone, even members of his own party, if they dare to raise their heads. So we shouldn’t have any problem when it comes to vigilantism. I can stick my head out and say that Ghana will not disappoint, ”said the foreign minister.
Ms Ayorkor Botchwey added that the government is ready to adopt the dialogue system that will bring together all interested parties to discuss how to keep the peace during and after the elections.
“There is no problem that cannot be solved through dialogue. Even in conflict situations where people become physical, it is not the most powerful of all that will solve this problem. At the end of the day, it works out at the table. We will take advantage of any dialogue that ensures peace before, during and after the elections, ”he said.
