Totobi Quakyi, a former national security adviser and chairman of the Communication Committee of the 2020 National Democratic Congress’s main opposition campaign, has advised the current New Patriotic Party (PNP) not to use corrupt means to hold on to power even if it loses power. Polls from December 7, 2020.

At a press conference on Sunday December 6, 2020, Mr. Totobi Quakyi said: “We will defend tomorrow’s vote at all costs”, adding: “We are interested in credible, transparent, free and fair elections.” .

Mr. Quakyi, speaking immediately after Lieutenant Colonel (RTD) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, NDC 2020 campaign operations director, said: “We have participated in a number of engagements at the National Security Council level and in meetings We made it very clear that we were there because we are interested in the peace and stability of Ghana but above all, we are interested in a credible and transparent election ”.

“We all talk about peace and stability, but like him [Gbevlo-Lartey] he said, the responsibility lies with the EC to do the right thing, “adding:” We believe that when the right things are done, we at the NDC are in the first position to win the 2020 elections. “

He urged the ruling party to resist the temptation to go against the will of the people at the end of the polls.

“At a time like this, you will find that members of the ruling government, who fear the inevitable, will try to get involved in one or two things to prevent what is about to happen.

“We have seen it in 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016, but all I want to say to members of the ruling government and the outgoing government and party is that at the end of the day, they should look at the bigger picture. and that bigger picture is the interest, stability and future of this country.

“Nothing they want, in terms of power or staying in power, should override that broader national interest, which is the sustenance and stability of democracy in Ghana,” he said.

In his opinion, “it is victory and defeat that has strengthened Ghana’s democracy and brought us to this point and therefore I would expect that in all parties and especially at a time like this there will be some hawks. I want to do certain things ”.

“As I said, they must be guided by the bigger picture, they must be guided by what is in the broader national interest. At the end of the day, we want to have a Ghana that everyone is proud of. At the end of the day, you want to be able to sit down and say ‘the best match won’ and indeed the NDC won, which is now the best match, with the best ideas ”, Mr. Totobi Quakyi pointed out.
