The National Highway Safety Authority (NRSA) on Wednesday advised residents of communities along the country’s highways and highways to desist from the forced evacuation of vehicle accident victims to protect lives.

However, they should try to call and inform the Police, Fire or Ambulance Services.

Mr. Kwasi Agyenim-Boateng, Regional Director of Bono, Bono Este and Ahafo of the NRSA, provided advice during a road safety awareness exercise organized by the Authority for drivers and passengers at some truck stations in the municipality of Kintampo North of the Bono Este Region.

Studies, he said, showed that some victims survived the crashes but were strangled to death in an attempt to evacuate them from vehicles at the crash site.

He said that people who tried to support and evacuate accident victims lacked the necessary skills and, in the process, strangled some to death.

He said that while it was not wrong to help accident victims, that should be done by trained institutions.

He advised drivers and people who came to the accident scene to inform the media and relevant institutions.

Mr. Agyenim-Boateng praised the commercial drivers on the Techiman-Kintampo-Tamale highway for reducing traffic accidents due to improved driver discipline.

He said that road safety education had gone well with drivers, and said that many of them understood the message and were observing the rules and road signs.

Mr. Agyenim-Boateng expressed the hope that drivers will continue to ensure sanity on the road.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Francis Adjei Brobbey, the commander of the Kintampo Division’s Department of Transportation and Motor Traffic (MTTD), advised drivers to perform regular maintenance, check their tires, brakes and lighting systems before to undertake any journey.

He reminded drivers to renew their licenses, insurance and certificates of driving skills, saying that the police would not forgive them for disobeying road safety regulations.

DSP Brobbey advised drivers to be cautious on the road to control for human errors, which contributed about 90 percent of traffic accidents and deaths.
