Deschamps Praises France For Keeping Ronaldo Quiet In Draw With Portugal – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Score, Results

Didier Deschamps has praised his French side after they were able to knock out Cristiano Ronaldo in their goalless draw with Portugal.

The Juventus talisman was only able to make three goal attempts during the Nations League clash between the world champion and the European, and was even caught openly expressing his frustration.

The boring draw saw champions Portugal lead their group on goal difference despite failing to break the deadlock in their last two matches.

France, meanwhile, were able to squeeze in at the rear and secure a clean sheet, leaving Deschamps to highlight that Ronaldo, unsurprisingly, his opponent’s biggest threat, was magnificently nullified.

He told M6 in his post-match press duties: ‘We can always do better, then there is also the quality of the opponent.

“They take precautions like us, with respect to the players in front like Cristiano, whom we have not seen too much tonight.”

Lucas Hernández prevented Ronaldo from scoring the net in the first half with a timely sliding block, and the 35-year-old was later angered when Joao Félix drifted off target with his teammate waiting to jump.

The share of the loot forced France into second place in Group 3 of League A, and Deschamps admitted that his team will need more vanguard to have any hope of reaching the next stage.

“Sometimes the movements are not good, sometimes the pass is also a little late,” he added. “The defensive sector and the midfield performed quite well.

‘In the last phase, we have to do better to be able to win the game, even if it could have been on a set piece like they did too.

“I knew Portugal was a great team, we saw it tonight. It’s better when there are goals, but hey, there is quality and not just offense.

‘A solid game, quite tactical, I think we were better in the second half. We had more control but few opportunities on one side and the other. There is quality on both sides, it could have changed.

“I think we took the lead in the second half, but without managing to create a lot of changes, since they, on their side, also created very little.”

A total of 1,000 spectators were allowed into the Stade de France, which has a capacity of 80,000, due to coronavirus restrictions in the country.
