The NPP parliamentary hopefuls who lost the primaries, including 42 sitting MPs, have officially launched a movement to organize the grassroots for a resounding NPP victory in the December 2020 elections.
The movement called “Aspirantes Unidos por la victoria” (Aspirants United for Victory) is a group made up of 220 failed parliamentary candidates and 42 sitting deputies who lost the NPP parliamentary primaries.
The victory campaign was launched by Vice President HE Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
It was chaired by the Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Mike Oquaye.
Parliament Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who seized the occasion, delivered a message of goodwill.
Speaking at the launch, the vice president entrusted failed PNP parliamentary hopefuls to actively participate in the 2020 campaign to help prevent voter apathy in the December elections.
According to him, they must join forces with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and aspiring members of Parliament to achieve the party’s roadmap.
“We need a resounding victory for the president and parliamentarians, so make a 100 percent effort to get the roadmap achieved,” he said.
He said that the unity displayed by the group gave enough impetus to the party that everything possible would be done to support the group in a successful campaign.
He said that the NPP has a team that is solidly united for victory this year because it has stayed true to the people by keeping most of its promises.
Dr. Bawumia advised the group to continue their movement’s agenda beyond this year’s elections and said their union was a good sign for the demonstration of unwavering love for the PNP and urged them to continue to show their love for the party even more in opposition. .
The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, who chaired the ceremony, asked the NPP parliamentary candidates who lost to support President Akufo-Addo, as well as all parliamentary candidates why the President and his Vice President would need a strong and majority representation in parliament.
He recommended that they join their colleagues who will participate in national elections as they think about how to reform the process in future NPP parliamentary primaries.
The National Organizer of the PNP, Mr. Sammy Awuku, for his part praised the aspirants for choosing the PNP over their personal interests and urged them to unite to work together for victory.
He said victory in this year’s elections would not come on a silver platter and therefore the NPP needs everyone on board.
Conveners, Hon. Kennedy Kankam and Bice Obour Osei Kuffour delivered the welcome speech and the campaign roadmap, respectively.
In his speech, Kennedy Kankam, MP, Nhyiaeso said that the ruling PNP will surely win the 2020 elections without question.
“We are going to achieve the objectives that have been set by the campaign manager and the capable leadership of the party and the party. Excellency, please, do not panic, do not be afraid, the Lord is with us and has spoken to us in dreams and visions that he has already given us victory, “he said.
