Former Justice Minister and Attorney General Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor has said that strange manipulations never witnessed in Ghana’s history characterized the recent presidential and parliamentary elections.
According to him, it is a known fact that African elections are rigged in one way or another, but one would hope that in the case of Ghana that would have been done with a bit of sophistication and decency.
Speaking at a program in Accra to commemorate the December 31 Revolution on Thursday, the former law professor stated that Ghana’s election results have never changed multiple times as they did under the Election Commission led by Jean Mensa.
“We have a very clear idea since 1993 that when elections are held, the winner will usually take over and this country will move on. We have some challenges from time to time, but we have never experienced a situation where the election results have been declared, corrected, changed, amended and possibly only God knows what will happen next. ”
Meanwhile, the standard-bearer of the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC) on December 30, 2020, asked the Supreme Court to annul the results of the 2020 Elections.
The ex-Mahama also wants the court to order the repetition of the ballot boxes, hence the need to issue a decree that prevents President Akufo-Addo from remaining as president-elect.
Other reliefs
Other reparations requested by the former president include a statement that the EC president, Ms. Jean Mensa, violated the 1992 constitution, specifically Article 63 (3) with the statement she made on December 9, 2020.
In addition, the former president asks the country’s supreme court to declare that, based on the data contained in the declaration, “no candidate met” the threshold of more than 50 percent required to be declared the winner of the presidential elections.
