Mfantseman Member of Parliament, Ekow Quansah Hayford
Police say forensic analysis of the exhibits in connection with the theft of murdered Mfantseman MP Ekow Quansah Hayford, who was sent to the lab, is not yet ready.
The Prosecutor’s Office led by the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fuseine Yakubu said that the results of the forensic analysis would determine the next line of action for the Prosecutor’s Office.
ASP Yakubu therefore prayed to the court for a postponement pending the outcome of the forensic analysis results.
The defense attorney reiterated his request for bail for the defendants, but the court chaired by Ms Evelyn Asamoah rejected it.
In the last session, the Police informed the court that the evidence had been sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory.
According to the prosecution, the report on the evidence that included a pistol, pellets and projectiles would determine the way forward in the trial.
The defendants are: Alhassan Abubakar alias Abu Fulani, Naziru Fudailu Nash alias SP, Alhassan Mahama Yahaya alias Mystical Cloud, Amadu Yakubu, Haruna Osmanu, Adam Alhassan, Fuseini Alhassan alias Black Smith and Fred Tetteh alias Walace and a Mohammed and others who they say they are free.
The defendants face various charges of conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Alhassan Abubakar, alias Abu Fulani, is a mobile phone repairman residing in Akwatia Line, Kumasi and Naziru Fudailu Nash alias SP is a businessman living in Aboabo No. 2, Kumasi.
The prosecution said that Alhassan Mahama Yahaya, also known as Mystical Cloud, is unemployed and lives in Dansoman in Accra, Amadu Yakubu is a mobile money agent and lives in Mankessim Zongo while Haruna Osumanu is a merchant and lives in Mankessim.
The prosecution said on October 9 this year that police gathered information that armed robbers had barricaded a section of the road between Abeaze-Dominase and Duadze on the Mankessim Assufosu road, robbing travelers of their mobile phones, money and other objects. of value.
He said police quickly mobilized the men and proceeded to the scene, but narrowly missed the robbers.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, at the scene, the Police saw a series of vehicles parked on the road with some of the victims who had suffered various degrees of gunshot wounds with one dead.
The prosecution said a body was subsequently identified as Mfantsiman’s Member of Parliament, Ekow Quansah Hayford.
According to the prosecution, two of the victims, Patrick Asante, a Kia truck driver, and Uncle Issah, the MP driver, were seriously injured.
The prosecution added that the police had to clear the road to restore the flow of traffic and transferred the victims to hospitals in Winneba and Cape Coast for medical attention.
He said the body of the deceased member of Parliament was later deposited in the Saltpond morgue pending an autopsy.
According to the prosecution, the investigations revealed that, the late Mfantsiman deputy submitted his nomination form on October 8 this year for re-election and decided to visit four communities in the Taabosom electoral area namely; Effutakwa, Opim, Takoradi and Duadze.
The Prosecutor’s Office said that the MP arrived with his campaign team aboard a Mitsubishi SUV of the NPP brand and the thieves immediately fired at the vehicle, bursting the tires of the vehicle that finally stopped after hitting a ditch.
The prosecution said the thieves surrounded them and demanded all their valuables.
The robbers pointed a gun at Stephen Allan and asked him if he was the deputy, to which he responded negatively.
The prosecution said that Mr. Hayford, the parliamentarian confessed that they pounced on him and picked up his Samsung Galaxy 850 mobile phone and also demanded money.
The prosecution said that the late deputy told the thieves that he had spent all his money when he returned from a campaign tour.
“He, therefore, begged them to take him home to give them money, but they refused and shot him, killing him instantly,” the prosecution said.
According to the prosecution, the Police traced the deceased’s mobile phone to Kumasi and arrested Nash in Aboabo in possession of the deceased Samsung Galaxy 850, where Nash mentioned Abubakar as the person who sold him the phone for ¢ 780.00 GH.
He said Nash led police to the Akwatia line, where Abubakar was also arrested. Abubakar mentioned Mohammed as the one who sold him the phone for GH ¢ 680.00 and that Yahaya, Yakubu, Osumanu and Alhassan were arrested in connection with the theft and murder of the MP.
The case was postponed until January 18 of next year.
