David Ornstein from The Athletic has confirmed a boost for Arsenal if it manages to land Real Madrid midfielder Martín Odegaard.
The Gunners are closing in on signing the Madrid midfielder, and yesterday there were numerous reports and journalists who suggested that the Odegaard deal is almost done.
However, there had been concerns about when Arsenal fans might see Odegaard in action, given the UK’s current strict lockdown and self-isolation rules for arriving nationals.
But Ornstein, taking his Twitter Last night, he moved to allay any fears Gunners fans might have and said an elite athlete exemption means it’s good news for the Gunners.
If Arsenal get a deal with Odegaard (there is still work to be done), they have an elite athlete exemption: no isolation with negative. # COVID-19 proof. Of course, Arsenal will still have to catch up with Odegaard in terms of fitness and sharpness. The Norwegian has been deprived of minutes on the pitch in Madrid and will undoubtedly take a while to adapt.
However, it appears that the pandemic will not affect Odegaard for now, unless he returns a positive test upon arrival.
TBR view: everything fits for Arsenal and Odegaard
Another timely boost for the Gunners here regarding their incoming transfer. Signing Odegaard and having to isolate himself would be a bit of a hassle, but the exemption means you can at least get down to business.
The Gunners hope that, given his age and his training with Madrid, it won’t be long before he catches up.
It has been an exciting week for Arsenal fans and the confirmation of any deal for Odegaard this weekend will complete it very well.
