David de Gea will leave Manchester United at the end of the season with a huge reward for cutting his contract early as Dean Henderson officially becomes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice goalkeeper.

According to The Mirror, United is ready to part ways with De Gea, 30, and wants to get his dazzling £ 350,000 weekly salary off his books.

However, with two years remaining to fulfill his contract, any move by the Red Devils to move De Gea will likely involve a substantial payment to shorten his time at Old Trafford.

Once regarded as the best player on the Manchester United team and the club’s highest paid player, De Gea’s form has come under significant scrutiny in recent seasons.

With Henderson retired from a very successful loan stint at Sheffield United last season, and having signed a six-year deal for £ 120,000 a week in August last year, Solskjaer is set to hand him the number one jersey next season.

The 24-year-old cleverly intervened in De Gea’s absence after the Spaniard returned home last month for the birth of his son. Henderson kept three clean sheets in the Premier League, although he did make the mistake that led to AC Milan’s draw at the San Siro in the Europa League.

De Gea is the spearhead for an exodus of goalkeepers at Man United, according to The Mirror. Three more senior goalkeepers are expected to be fired at the end of the season.

Argentine Sergio Romero has already been allowed to exhaust the remaining months of his contract at home, while third option Lee Grant and Joel Pereira, currently on loan at Huddersfield, will become free agents at the end of the season.
