A tsunami wiped out some former executive members of the People’s National Convention (PNC) last Wednesday when a new generation of leaders took over the party’s administration in their national congress.

Most shocking of those defeated was Mr. Bernard Mornah, who bowed to retain the presidency but lost to a former Deputy Minister of Health, Mr. Moses Dani Baah.

Baah got 1,297 votes to Mornah’s 1,266 votes.

In another shock wave, Mr. David Apasera garnered 1,315 votes to win the position of flag bearer for the party, compared to 465 votes for Reverend Samuel Adjei-Debrah, who also bowed to win the position of flag bearer. The third contestant for the flagger position, Mr. Sampson Asaki Awingobit, got 789 votes to finish second in the race.

Other winners

For the vice-president position, Henry Haruna Asante won with 1,729 votes against Hajia Hajara Musah Ali’s 946 votes, Omar Ahmed Bekure’s 635 and Eugene TK Bashiru’s 375.

The post of General Secretary went to Ms. Janet Asana Nabla when she emerged victorious with 1,312 votes to 1,041 votes for Mr. Emmanuel Wilson Jr. and 230 votes for Mr. Kobe McDonald.

Mr. Abass Nuhu was elected National Organizer with 1,124 votes.

His competitors Ntow Desmond Twumasi and Daniel Nii Noi obtained 773 and 639 votes respectively.

Women’s organizer

Ms. Hidaya Sungjun Ibrahim garnered 1,249 votes to win the post of organizer, up from 756 votes cast by Ms. Esther Osei Danso and 317 votes by Ms. Patience Lamisi Adam Johnson and 236 votes by Ms. Hummi Sinare Sinanka.

Those who did not object and were confirmed were Mr. Emmanuel A. Akannae, treasurer; Mr. Mark Arko Ewusi, youth organizer; Prince Agyemang Dua, deputy youth organizer, and Mr. Issahaque Awudulai as communication secretary.

Restoring the party

In his speech after his victory, the flag-bearer, Mr. Apasera, promised to bring life back to the party that had suffered some setbacks over the years.

“This is a great party. When I look back at Dr. Hilla Limann, who was ousted for doing nothing wrong, I have to serve this party to honor his name, ”the former Bolgatanga member said for three terms.

Apasera served as a deputy for the constituency in 2000, 2004 and 2008.

“I am going to work hard to let Ghanaians know that the PNC is a vehicle that can lead to Jubilee House. We are touching the ground in fifth gear to be able to catch up with the other parts, ”he added.

Concession

In her concession speech, Mornah praised the party leadership for how far it had led the party despite the challenges.

“Today my leadership has come to an end. I wish the winners the best in their management. It is my hope that where we fail, they will succeed and make the PNC a better match, “he added.

For his part, Dani Baah promised to rejuvenate the party and make it attractive during his tenure.

“Our party has been reduced to a certain level that is very worrying. Our predecessors have contributed their grain of sand and I will make sure that the game does not remain the same, “he said.
