The former national organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Kofi Adams has the firm conviction that separating 40 government ministers from the fat president Akufo-Addo would save the country ¢ 40 million GH for development projects.

“Cutting 40 ministers would save the country GH ¢ 40 million, which the NDC has said we would funnel into the National Apprenticeship Program as stated in our manifesto,” said Kofi Addams.

According to him, the NDC government will re-channel the amount saved from the large size of the government into the national apprenticeship program to train more youth with various job skills.

With the NDC apprenticeship program, the party has said it will employ master craftsmen from around the country to train young people in crafts.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in January 2017 appointed 112 ministers and deputies, which generated a great public stir.

The decision to have a large government, however, received great criticism from both citizens and opinion leaders, including the NDC, who claimed that it was a plan aimed at depleting the country’s scarce resources.

But the president, in response to these accusations, argued categorically that he would prefer to allow his government to act effectively as he was in a hurry to clear up the mess left by the former John Dramani Mahama administration.

Mr. Kofi Adams, speaking on GHOne TV, insisted that: “This government has chosen to elect many ministers and spend a lot of money on ministers. He has chosen to take on so much presidential staff and spend so much on them. We say that we want to take that money and spend it on young people, train them, equip them so that they can work ”. He said.
