Juventus were defeated in their last match of 2020 and Cristiano Ronaldo warned that they must improve their game in the new year.
Cristiano Ronaldo says there was no excuse for Juventus’ 3-0 loss at home to Fiorentina, but is optimistic that the Serie A champions will “come back stronger and more united than ever” in 2021.
Ronaldo says Juve players should give more
The Turin giants suffered their biggest defeat since moving to Allianz Stadium nine years ago when the humble Viola scored a surprising victory on Tuesday.
Juve was already with one goal less after a first game by Dusan Vlahovic when Juan Cuadrado was sent off in the 18th minute for a tackle on Gaetano Castrovilli.
Alex Sandro’s own goal and a single shot from Martín Cáceres sealed it for Fiorentina, leaving Andrea Pirlo’s team seven points behind leader Milan in fourth place at the end of the year.
Prolific forward Ronaldo knows his performance was unacceptable and called on the Bianconeri to regroup for the rest of the season.
The captain of Portugal posted on Instagram: “Yesterday, with a bad performance and an unacceptable result, we close our games scheduled for 2020, a special year in many particular ways. Empty stadiums, covid protocols, postponed games, long stoppages and a very tight schedule.
“But this is no excuse at all. We know that we have to give more of ourselves to play better and win more consistently. We are Juventus! And we simply cannot accept anything less than excellence in the field!
“I hope that this brief strike will help us to come back stronger and more united than ever, because the season is still far from over and in the end we believe that, once again, we will celebrate with our tiffosi.
“Believe in us, trust our team as much as we trust you, and we will deliver it! “
