Cristiano Ronaldo has been branded as ‘ignorant’ by former Juventus defender Pasquale Bruno, who accused the superstar of not respecting his teammates.
Ronaldo helped Juve beat Ferencvaros 4-1 on Wednesday night, setting up Álvaro Morata’s second goal as the Serie A giants stayed on their way to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
The Portuguese star is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in history, having won five Champions League titles and five Ballon d’Or awards during a trophy-laden career with Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid and its current club.
Ronaldo has continued his form since moving to Turin in 2018, having scored 70 goals in 92 games and helped Juventus to successive Serie A titles.
But Bruno believes that the fact that Ronaldo has not learned the language since moving to Italy is disrespectful to both his teammates and the country as a whole.
“He’s ignorant,” the 58-year-old said during an appearance on Tiki Taka. “He has been in Italy for two years and has not yet learned to speak our language.
“He uses Spanish to express himself. He doesn’t respect his classmates or Italians.”
But Juventus right-back Juan Cuadrado doesn’t seem to share Bruno’s opinion of Ronaldo, who scored two goals in a 4-1 win over Spezia at the weekend after a two-week outbreak due to coronavirus.
Cuadrado said of his 35-year-old teammate: “Ronaldo is very happy, he couldn’t wait to go back and play.
“You saw him from the moment he stepped on the field [against Spezia].
“It is an extra weapon for us, we all know what it gives the team. He has a lot of confidence and that also helps us, transmitting the professionalism and the desire to win that we should all have ”.
Juventus’ next game is away against Lazio on Sunday.
