CPP has praised the EC
Nana Akosua Frimpomma Sarpong Kumahkumah, president of the People’s Convention Party (CPP) on Monday praised the Electoral Commission (EC) and Ghanaians for the peaceful conduct of the 2020 general elections.
According to her, the electoral process has been fluid with pockets of problems to see things from the surface.
“Let me congratulate all Ghanaians, the EC, local and international observers, clearly something seems to be working much better on the surface,” he said.
Ms. Sarpong Kumahkumah made the observation when speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the CPP headquarters in Asylum Down in Accra about the party’s assessment of the electoral process at the end of the polls.
He explained that while observing the electoral process in some polling stations in East Legon, Madina, Adentan, Okaikoi North and Anyaa Sowutuom, the process seemed quite smooth.
He said that in some polling stations the place was practically empty at noon as there were no voters in the queue.
He indicated that so far they have not heard of any major incidents and that the process appeared to be smooth and said the election was one of the peaceful ones he has witnessed in a long time.
Ms. Sarpong Kumahkumah also explained that because there were no crowds at the polling stations they visited, they thought that people had boycotted the polls due to apathy, but when they asked some presidents around 2.30 p.m. they found that more than 70 per one hundred of the electorates had already voted.
“If you ask me, on the surface, the EC has done a good job … Honestly, the process has been straightforward so far,” he added.
She said the CPP was only able to present 40 parliamentary candidates in this year’s elections.
Madame Sarpong Kumahkumah also revealed that the CPP had established a system to compile election results across the country.
