Ghana Health Service (GHS) Director of Public Health Dr Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe says that the Covid-19 vaccine Ghana has yet to receive will be free to Ghanaians.

He told JoyNews’ Newsfile host Samson Lardy Anyenini that vaccines in Ghana are totally free, either against Covid-19 or against measles.

“They are not paid. They are paid for by the government. So the average Ghanaian doesn’t pay for it. It’s free, ”he added.

Meanwhile, the government is spending more than $ 200 million to purchase the Covid-19 vaccine for the entire population.

Dr. Asiedu-Bekoe, in a press conference on Thursday, revealed that the price of the vaccine currently available ranged from $ 4 to $ 20 and that would be the cost at which all Ghanaians would be vaccinated.

Additionally, Ghana is among the 145 counties listed to receive vaccines from various providers through the COVAX facility according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Ghana is destined to receive 2.4 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is licensed by the Serum Institute of India (AZ / SII).
