Thibaut Courtois was honored to receive the Zamora Trophy from MARCA, but the Real Madrid goalkeeper would rather see the club win collective honors than continue raising individual awards.
The Belgian kept more clean sheets than anyone in LaLiga Santander last season, which saw him win the award, but obsessing over those things is not one of his priorities, despite being the third time he has won two with Atlético de Madrid previously.
“Each trophy is beautiful and I give a lot to last season’s because it was the first with Real Madrid and because we won LaLiga.” [Santander]”Courtois told BRAND.” But the collective awards mean more.
“It’s nice for a goalkeeper to win games, because we are in a position where big mistakes cost the team. If we stop or help the team to win by a goal, that’s good. Goalkeepers are important.
“Hopefully [I can win another]. But the important thing is to fight for the title. If I keep a lot of clean sheets, then we have done our job well, as we have done lately. We have to continue like this and win LaLiga Santander and, if possible, Zamora ”.
Courtois had his difficulties when he first arrived in the capital from Chelsea, but he is looking to improve even more.
“There is always room for improvement,” Courtois added. “With the coach here, we play a lot from behind. I can improve my passing.
“You always have to try to improve and be a better goalkeeper. Football evolves, changes and the goalkeeper also has to try new things.”
