Los Blancos goalkeeper discussed his comments about not giving the title to his arch rivals
Thibaut Courtois clarified his comments about Barcelona, saying that he never said that Real Madrid should be named champion of the League.
The goalkeeper said last week that Barça should not receive the title if the season could not be ended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But La Liga is aiming to end its season and Quique Setien’s men have a two-point lead over Madrid with 11 games to play.
Courtois again discussed his comments on Monday and said he did not ask for Madrid to be crowned champion.
“At no time did I say that Real Madrid had to be declared champion,” he told Televisión Española.
“If the league ends, we are in a better position, even if we lost [Real] Betis
“If we play the remaining 11 games, I am sure my team can win the league.”
Courtois returned to training with the League on Monday with the goal of getting back on track in mid-June.
The Belgian international was happy to return, albeit in unusual circumstances due to Covid-19.
“It was good to go back to training a little bit,” Courtois said.
“But it was strange, different, but feeling the grass and the training is better than nothing.”
After a nightmarish debut campaign at the Bernabéu, Courtois has changed him, helping Madrid only concede 19 league goals in 27 games.
His international coach from Belgium, Roberto Martínez, believes that the shooter showed ‘great maturity’ to recover from his depression.
“I think that Thibaut, everything that happened on the field of play, never affected him decisively. He was aware that he wanted to improve his performances and somehow be at his natural level,” Martínez told El Espanyol.
“I have seen him with great pride. Seeing Thibaut has to keep working and reach the level he has reached is because he is perfectly prepared to be at Real Madrid’s goal.”

“The easy thing would have been to throw in the towel or start blaming third parties when you’re in such a difficult situation. Thibaut did the opposite.”
“He showed great maturity, great self-criticism, until he became essential at Real Madrid. There are no goalkeepers like Thibaut in modern football.”
“It has been a pride to see him grow so much on a human level and give the level he has given this season.”
