A High Court in Wenchi, in the Bono region, has rejected a request seeking to impose an injunction on the swearing-in of the Techiman South elected Member of Parliament.
Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah won the parliamentary elections in the constituency in the 2020 general elections.
He won the seat with 49,682 votes.
In issuing its ruling on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, the court chaired by Fred Nawura observed that stopping Korsah’s swearing-in would be unfair to the voters of Techiman South.
In a separate development, the Supreme Court struck down the interim injunction placed in the Hohoe Parliamentary Results Election Results Bulletin that showed Peter Amewu as the winner.
A five-member panel of the Supreme Court overturned the Ho High Court decision to prevent Peter Amewu from considering himself an elected deputy for the Hohoe constituency.
With this, Peter Amewu can freely go to parliament and will be sworn in in the eighth parliament of the fourth republic to represent his constituency.
The parliamentary election in the Hohoe constituency resulted in the declaration of John Peter Amewu of the New Patriotic Party as the winner, having obtained 26,952 (55.18%) of the popular votes.
On December 22, 2020, the results of the national parliamentary elections were published by the Electoral Commission.
In other news, there was a kind of subtle war of words between Ghana’s majority and minority leaders in Parliament following the delivery of President Akufo-Addo’s state of the nation address.
Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, after delivering the last State of the Nation Address of the 7th Parlemanet of the 4th Republic, called for the proceedings to continue.
