The National Labor Commission has obtained a court order against a planned strike by some health workers.
The court order was filed in an Accra High Court on September 18 against the Ghana Nurses and Midwives Association.
The group, a section of certified registered nurses, midwives, medical assistants and anesthetists who work in public health facilities across the country, are demanding better conditions of service.
This comes at a time when healthcare professionals across the country are at the forefront of the fight against the new coronavirus.
The defendants had planned to withdraw their services as of Monday, September 21, following failed negotiations aimed at addressing the concerns.
Groups include the Ghana Association of Registered Nurses and Midwives, the Ghana Association of Medical Assistants, and the Ghana Association of Registered Anesthetists.
It is reported that the Associations issued a statement on September 4 of this year, informing their members about the position of their employer, which was contrary to Provision 97 of the Labor Law of 2003.
However, the plaintiff was successful in the Ex-parte Petition for an interlocutory injunction in Labor Court 1.
“It is hereby further ordered that this precautionary measure is for 10 days and that applicants must return to court with notice,” the Superior Court indicated.
