Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu has hinted that, as a way to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the country, the Ghana Police Service will soon start arresting and prosecuting people who will be discovered without wearing a nasal mask. .
Speaking at the minister’s press conference this morning, the Health Minister said that although the threat of the spread of the coronavirus still exists, the precautions necessary to stop its spread remain simple and should not be a problem for people.
“They (security protocols) are not difficult to do, so I don’t understand why some of us don’t do these things. We’ve been thinking about what to do next to strictly enforce these basic guidelines, we’re working on and we think very we will soon see the police arrest some of us who are becoming too recalcitrant “
According to the minister, the arrest of such individuals is likely to be followed by their prosecution, which will lead to spending time in jail to deter others.
The government, over the days, has been in a campaign to get Ghanaians to adhere to the security protocols outlined for preventing the spread of COVID-19.
Protocols that include the use of nasal masks have seen some institutions, such as banks, enforce a “no mask, no entry” policy at their facilities.
During this morning’s press conference by the Ministry of Information, Dr. Badu Sarkodie of the Ghana Health Service, while giving an update on the country’s COVID-19 case count, revealed that the total number of cases confirmed was 5,530, while recoveries and deaths were 674 and 24 respectively.
