Phobians have updated Covid-19 testing on all players and team officials ahead of the football season.

Three members of the Hearts of Oak team have tested positive for the coronavirus disease, the club announced.

The identity of the people has not been released, but the media claim that forward Abednego Tetteh and midfielder Abdul Aziz Nurudeen are among the infected trio.

The Accra-based team recently underwent a mandatory test exercise as part of the security protocols for the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League (GPL) start on November 14.

It remains uncertain whether the players will recover in time before the Phobians’ first game of the season against Aduana Stars.

“Covid-19 Update: Three people on the team who underwent the corona test tested positive and were referred to the appropriate quarters for isolation and treatment. We wish them well and hope they will join us soon,” Hearts announced on Twitter on Saturday.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) began a mandatory test exercise for all 18 GPL clubs last month, starting with Dawu-based Dreams FC.

According to a post on the official GFA website about the testing procedure, “All registered players from clubs, coaching staff and officials will be tested in order to ensure integrity, fairness and transparency. from the competition.

“The GFA is also working hard to propose measures to ensure that the games are played under strict covid-19 protocols for a successful 2020/2021 season.

“Player and official testing, a partnership between the Ghana Football Association and the government’s Covid-19 task force is part of the efforts being made to ensure that football is played in the safest way possible.” .

In September, Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced on national television that the national soccer ban had been lifted for the resumption of the GPL, possibly on October 30.

The ban came into effect in March after Ghana recorded its first coronavirus cases, which temporarily halted all 2019-20 soccer competitions, including the GPL, the FA Cup, the First Division League and the Women’s Premier League.

After three months of waiting for the possible resumption of soccer, the GFA Executive Council decided to cancel the soccer season entirely.

Last month, the national soccer governing body announced November 14 as the date for the start of a full new season: the 2020-21 campaign.

All match stadiums will not occupy more than 25% of their capacity.
